Learning in and Outside the Classroom

What do our high school learners do? Find out everything.

HIGH SCHOOL

Dear High School Community,

Lincoln High School is full of excitement and learning, both in and out of the classroom.

Congratulations to our Seniors who are completing their Mock IB exams this week in preparation for their final IB exams that will take place from April 29 to May 21. Their hard work allows them to demonstrate their learning and sets our teachers up to provide targeted feedback and support as our Seniors prepare for the final stages of the two-year program.

National Honor Society

National Honor Society logo

Students are now being considered for membership in the National Honor Society, an organization founded in the United States that recognizes high school students for their outstanding achievements in the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Annually, the Lincoln faculty nominates students based on these four pillars. Students in grades 10-11 who met the scholarship requirements to become a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) were invited to reply by the March 12 due date.

A faculty council selects applicants for membership based on the demonstration of the four pillars within both our scholastic community and the community at large. Candidates will be informed of their selection status by April 10, 2026, and the induction ceremony will take place on April 21, 2026, at 6:00 pm in the HS Aula Magna.  Thank you to NHS advisors Laura Rock and Morgan Bayat for facilitating the process.

SAAC Fine Arts and BRAMUN

As our performing arts students prepare to travel to Graded School in Brazil for the SAAC Fine Arts Festival from March 18-22, we wish them the best on their travels.  Students from across the region come together to share their love of visual and performing arts to design, create, and showcase their collective work. It’s an exciting opportunity and an amazing learning experience for our Condors.

Lincoln is also sending a delegation to Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, for the Brazil Model United Nations conference (BRAMUN), also taking place March 18-22.  Our students have been researching and preparing to represent countries from around the world on committees that replicate the work of the United Nations. Model United Nations is an academic simulation in which students develop skills in research, diplomacy, public speaking, negotiation, and global problem-solving to propose resolutions that address modern world issues– a perfect venue for our students to practice the Attributes of a Lincoln Learner (ALLs).

International Baccalaureate at Lincoln

MOCK EXAMS: Many thanks to the grade 12 families for sending delicious morning snacks to boost the morale of our Seniors during a very intense assessment week. Students will receive detailed feedback on their Mock Exams no later than April 10th to guide their revision. Mock exams help students prepare for the IB exams, which begin on April 28th, and for the types of large-scale, high-stakes exams they can expect in university.

IB EVALUATION VISIT: Every five years, the International Baccalaureate Organization requires schools with IB programs to complete a self-evaluation of their program. Part of this evaluation includes input and participation from the grade 11 and 12 parent community when the IB conducts an evaluation visit. If you are a grade 11 or 12 parent who is interested in participating, please contact the IB Diploma Coordinator, Sarah Fang, at sarah.fang@lincoln.edu.ar. The commitment is two in-person meetings: one meeting in April/May with the Diploma Coordinator, and one meeting during the IB’s evaluation visit from June 2-4. Thank you for considering it!

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY UPDATE: As part of the school’s IB program development plan during our IB evaluation period, the IB Diploma Coordinator, Sarah Fang, and the MS/HS Librarian, Chris Faze, have been conducting workshops with students grades 9-12 to ensure that they understand best practices and the school’s guidelines regarding academic integrity, specifically focusing on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). One important guideline shared with students is that generative AI is permitted on assessments when used as a thought partner and can be used to source research (and should be acknowledged if used as such), but may not be used to edit or author the student’s work. Teachers and staff will continue these ongoing discussions with students to support them in demonstrating their own critical thinking in their work.

On behalf of all teachers and staff of the high school, thank you for your ongoing support.

#AllTogether

Warm regards,

Dave Nelson, Ed.D.
High School Principal
