The Winds of Change

This is a time of change. I know, no one wants to hear this, especially after the year we have had. But we all see it, feel it, and know it! Winter is settling in with colder mornings, sweaters and boots, fireplaces and hot drinks. We are all getting ready for our vacation time, and we are honestly all ready for a change of pace. For those of us in international schools, this is the time when we call attention to Leavers, Stayers and Maybes.

Dear Lincoln Community,

This is a time of change. I know, no one wants to hear this, especially after the year we have had. But we all see it, feel it, and know it! Winter is settling in with colder mornings, sweaters and boots, fireplaces and hot drinks. We are all getting ready for our vacation time, and we are honestly all ready for a change of pace. For those of us in international schools, this is the time when we call attention to Leavers, Stayers and Maybes.

Every year, around this time, we begin to mentally assign people in our community to one of these categories. Families who will soon be leaving for another location around the world for their jobs are the Leavers. Families who have made Argentina their home, either temporarily or permanently, are the Stayers. And those families who are not yet certain if they will be leaving or staying in Buenos Aires are the Maybes. Each of these categories have aspects that are wonderful and aspects that are difficult. Leavers have an exciting life of moving globally yet they also have to continually adjust to a new environment. Stayers can build roots and plant gardens that they can actually harvest yet they also continually have to say goodbye and stay behind. The Maybes know how to wait and become either a Leaver or a Stayer and yet they live with such uncertainty. No matter who you are, a Leaver, a Stayer or a Maybe, your life is filled with remarkable possibilities as well as challenges. It’s all in how you think about your situation. You can face your personal circumstances with curiosity and optimism, or you can face it with fear and dread. Which will you choose?

As for me, I have been in every one of these categories in my career and for right now, I am delighted to be a Stayer! And as a Stayer, I am so excited to introduce you to the newbies who will be joining us next school year. Read on to learn more about the wonderful professionals who will be joining our Lincoln community!

This is also a time for us to say farewell to the following amazing people who have contributed so much to our Lincoln community. Please join us in saying goodbye and good luck to these individuals. We wish you all the very best and Lincoln will always welcome you!
