SUPERINTENDENTS' MESSAGE

Hello, Lincoln community,

I'm really excited to come to you for your first edition of the Flying Condor and to welcome you to a fantastic 22-23 school year. I hope that you've all had a great start to the academic year. And as we close our second week of classes, I trust that you have had wonderful conversations in your living rooms at dinner, in the evening with your children, and that you've had a chance to hear about projects their excited, about what they're looking forward to learning this year, and maybe most importantly about the connections they've made with friends and with adults in the school. I know that my third grader and my eighth grader have come home with lots of stories of friends that they've met, and opportunities that they're looking forward to for their learning.

As you've seen in our recent communications, we've got our after school activities starting up. I hope you've all had a chance to sign up. If by any chance you've missed or you have any questions, make sure to reach out to our activities office.

They'll be ready to support extracurricular activities, opportunities to lead, opportunities to have academic enrichment or extension athletics, and these are all available to you. I hope that your child will choose at least one, if not two or three activities that they can be involved in.

As you know, on Wednesday afternoons, our students go home early and our teachers stay a little bit later. The reason for that is that we want to create an opportunity for our faculty and staff to learn and grow together. We know that if we're learning, then your kids are learning. I wanted to share with you one of the main focus activities that we've been engaging in: All of our teachers and our staff, including our new teachers, participated in a book club, which means they selected one of eight books around a common theme. They were able to meet in groups of eight to 10 teachers to have conversations, whether teachers are working with our four year olds or our 18 year olds, they've come together to talk about common themes around inclusion for Lincoln inclusion means supporting students' range of learning.

Whether it's social, emotional, or academic, we've got strategies in place to make learning more enriching and more impactful for every child here for us. It also means that we're having conversations about justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity. And so talking about how do we create a culture of belonging for all of our students? So we have these book clubs that come together and have rich conversations, about what those strategies might be.

I wanna take every moment I come in front of parents to highlight our Strategic Plan, you'll be able to access it on our website. This is a plan that was created with teachers, parents, students, board members, and administration, and it is our map for success. For Lincoln, we've got clear end results that you can see listed on our website. And we've got a commitment to follow through in four different areas:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Professional Development
  • Institutional Advancement
  • Resources

Please check out our website for more information!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you next time,

Warm regards,

Dr.Nada Collins
