Dr. Nada Collins shares Lincoln updates to celebrate our community.
SUPERINTENDENTS' MESSAGE
What's up, Lincoln Condors?
We always talk about our attributes of a Lincoln learner and how important it is for our students but even all of us to be self navigators, critical thinkers, agents of change and communicators.
In today's edition of our flying condor, I want to focus on Lincoln students as communicators. Lincoln communicators are responsive listeners, they're effective speakers, they're creative producers, they're effective writers, and they're critical readers.
Our students are responsive listeners where they actively seek to understand somebody else's point of view. An example of this is when our students travel. So we recently sent a group of high school students to participate in the AMIS conference, which was held in Bogota, where they got to engage and learn with students from all over our region.
Our students are articulate speakers where they really learn to express themselves, being thoughtful of the audience they're communicating to, and how to connect with the listener. Last week we saw that with our students when they were presenting the middle school drama and tech performance, or our film students who not just showed their artwork but could really communicate about the lighting choices they made, the sound choices and other ways that they expressed their own thinking.
Our students are creative producers. They produce original work using a variety of media formats. The month of June is packed with examples for us to celebrate our students as producers. It was lovely to see many of you at the elementary school and middle school music and art showcases over the course of this week.
Lincoln communicators are effective writers. They generate rich texts that demonstrate a command of the language. It was phenomenal this week to see our students with their TOK presentations. Grade 11 really sharing both personal and thoughtful reflections as well as academic research integrated into their understanding of a deeper topic.
Lincoln communicators are critical readers. They comprehend and analyze different texts across a variety of mediums. We had 150 parents and students who were able to join us just last Saturday for our Mo Willems’ celebration of reading in the elementary school. Both a great community event but also a great time to focus on who we are as readers.
We look forward to seeing you next week for our K-5, our grade five and our Grade eight moving up ceremonies.
Have a great Lincoln Weekend.
