Welcome to

service learning

At Lincoln, we view service learning as a means to embody our school's mission of fostering kind and empathetic global citizens who honor diversity and contribute to the world through their learning.

So, what is Service Learning?

A real-world application of learning using curricular, co-curricular, and community engagement opportunities to address authentic issues through an intentional cycle of:

  • Investigation

  • Reflection

  • Meaningful, responsible, and sustainable action

Schoolwide Commitment K-12 Vertically Aligned Experiences

We aim to use an intentional cycle of investigation and reflection in all service learning experiences, be they units of inquiry, co-curricular clubs, or off-campus expeditions. We aspire for these interactions to be sustained over time as a result of intentional design. These are some of our service-learning activities from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

SERVICE LEARNING OVER THE YEARS

WHAT DO THEY SAY

"I will forever remember our trip to Chaco to help build and paint schools for the children of that community. I thought it was magnificent of Lincoln to imbue in us a sense of social responsibility."

- Belen del Amo, Class of 1998

“If you create art that targets a specific community and you know that community well, you can really create a piece that has an impact on that audience.”

-Santiago, high school learner

Service Learning: Connecting to the Bigger Picture

This program supports the first goal of the school's Strategic Plan:

There is a cohesive school-wide approach to community service and service learning that supports student-led initiatives as well as school-led partnerships, providing opportunities to build cultural connections both locally and globally.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Our work in the community is reciprocal, where we learn from our partners and address authentic needs in an empathetic way.

Germinar
