MS is preparing for a week of learning expeditions from March 19-22.  The purpose of these trips is to “promote social growth by encouraging positive interactions among students, teachers and chaperones.  They will help students to experience independence and engage with the broader community.”

-Parents should be attentive to communication from the MS office related to the trips, packing lists and WhatsApp groups for communication.

-We are asking students to bring their ID (DNI or passport) to the MS office on Monday to facilitate our early departure on Tuesday.  Students should bring the same document that was indicated on the signed permission form.

-All of our trips will be leaving early and we remind families that:

  • Grade 6 students should arrive to school by 5:30
  • Grade 7 & 8 students should arrive to school by 6:30.

-Students remaining in Buenos Aires should be at school by our regular start time of 8:00 and will participate in specially planned activities both and off of campus during the week.

Highlight on Learning

MS Art 7: Students have been learning about the American artist Georgia O’Keeffe.  They have learned about her context and time and to appreciate that she was one of the few female artists to pursue a career in the NY art scene at the beginning of the 20th century.  Using her work as an example, students have learned about abstraction and contrast.  As an assignment, students were tasked to create a painting inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings of flowers and landscapes, with an abstract approach to the image.

Painting and reflection by Finn (G7)

In order to make this piece, I had to experiment. I drew many variations of my drawing before I was able to come up with the concept. I tried different angles, flowers, where to place the flower, left, center, right, etc., when I finally came up with something I liked, I let my spontaneity and hand do the work. Any mistakes I made were corrected by adding that certain thing to any petals that were a part of that section. My goal was to create a visually appealing art piece that looked unique and different. I wanted the colors to be well selected in order to enhance the design of the flower. As far as my overall thoughts go, I like it. I liked how the combination of blues turned out, the design was also appealing to me, and I like how it’s floating in the sky. It’s just a singular flower, floating somewhere in the sky.
