message from the ms principal

Dear MS Parents, Students and Staff,

I would like to thank the parents who attended our coffee morning this week for their participation and questions. We will be referring frequently to the concepts we shared related to learning and assessment throughout the year.  We recorded the meeting, so feel free to request access to the recording through your grade level reps or by writing to the MS office.

lincoln's definition of learning

Learning is the intentional process of making sense of the world through exploration, expression, and reflection. The journey of life-long learning is transformative, inspires action, and opens new pathways.

next coffee morning

Our next coffee morning will be on October 21st and we will be sharing information related to our math program in middle school and how it transitions into our HS program.

This week I would like to recognize our middle school student council.  This group of students is meeting weekly and their energy is amazing.  After establishing their group agreements, they brainstormed ideas for a middle school Halloween party and are now working on setting up committee work.  They decided to form committees around the topics of:

  • Food and lunch menu
  • Whole school events / MS events
  • Setting up a MS gameroom
  • Student led clubs

We truly believe in the power of student voice and the ability of middle schoolers to do important, meaningful work.  We will be updating you regularly on the work of our student council throughout the year.

Message from the MS Counselor

We all want your children to be successful here at school! Sometime before big success, comes failure. It may sound odd to hope your child does not do well all of the time, but this or making a mistake creates an opportunity for them to practice improving. When they work hard to improve, they are learning what strategies and skills work for them. Middle school is a safe place for them to do that before they head to high school. Here is an article with a video that speaks about the importance of allowing your child to fail or do poorly when they try to do things on their own.
