Dear MS Parents, Students and Staff,

As we embrace spring I want to share with you some upcoming events in Middle School.

Diversity Week

Diversity week

October 7-10 we will celebrate Diversity Week here at Lincoln.  This marks the beginning of more school-wide activities centered around Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI), aimed at fostering community learning and encouraging student-led initiatives, leadership and action.  We will wrap the week up on Thursday the 10th with Unity Day in Middle School with mixed grade level activities and times for reflection.  Middle School parents are invited to send a snack that can be shared on Thursday morning to the MS office to make our morning break extra special.

Spirit Week

October 24-25 & 28-30 we will celebrate a Spirit Week with themed dress up days.  STUCO is helping to organize this as well as a dance that will happen on Friday the 25th.  More details coming soon regarding the dress up days and dance party.

Halloween

Get your Halloween costumes ready for Wednesday, October 30th.  Middle School will host our elementary school students for our annual Halloween parade and in-school trick or treating.  Students should remember that costumes can’t involve weapons,  dangerous substances or illegal activity and should not be too scary for our youngest students that will be visiting us on this day.

Conferences

Save the date!  Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1 we welcome our families to join us for conferences, in person or online.  After the holiday we will send out information for families to be able to sign up.  We will not have regularly scheduled classes on these days, but expect our students to be present and help lead any conferences the family signs up for.

MS Parent Coffee

It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share with our MS parents on Thursday, October 3rd.  If you have been unable to participate you can view the zoom version of the meeting with these links.

Highlight on Learning

G8 Multimedia: Students are discovering the magic of stop-motion animation. They're bringing their artistic creations to life, frame by frame, through techniques such as cutout and clay animation while developing valuable skills in storytelling, problem-solving, and technical proficiency.  As they navigate the challenges and rewards of this creative process, students are discovering their own unique artistic voices.

G6 Spanish 1-2 Students Welcomed a Special Visitor!  Our 6th-grade students from Prácticas de Lenguaje Laboratorio 1-2 had the pleasure of welcoming Francisco Sánchez, our school nurse, as a guest speaker for their unit on professions. In this unit, the students have been learning about various professions, their general characteristics, and how to ask questions in Spanish. They prepared questions to apply their newly acquired vocabulary and grammar skills and interviewed Francisco to guess his second unknown profession to all of us-

It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and active participation as they applied their learning and got to know more about an important member of our Lincoln community. To their surprise, Francisco is also a firefighter! After guessing his second profession, he shared essential and fascinating fire safety tips with the class to prevent home fires.

Thank you so much, Francisco, for your time and for teaching us about such a noble and courageous role as a volunteer firefighter. We learned a lot and are proud to have you as part of our community!

MS EAL:  Last Friday MS EAL students joined the 22nd National Reading Marathon by getting to know a popular Argentinian comic strip: “Mafalda”. Not only did they have a good laugh, but they also enjoyed reading in English. We continue to foster the habit of reading for pleasure and acknowledging how beneficial it is for our wellbeing.
