LINCOLN LIBRARIES

All community members are invited to use the libraries. We offer a great selection of print and digital materials in different languages. Our libraries include different work areas to accommodate everyone: from students who stop by to enjoy some reading during their free time to entire classes that come to learn and share.

ES PROGRAM

The ES Library is designed to support children’s curiosity, imagination and love of learning, and to foster our students’ first steps as readers and researchers.

Our staff works closely with the faculty to enhance students’ learning in all the curricular areas. Students practice research and informational literacy skills at a developmentally appropriate level, starting with our youngest learners.

MS/HS PROGRAM

Through our library resources and program we support the Attributes of Lincoln Learners. Specific goals include fostering a love of reading and developing exceptional information literacy/research skills.

The Library also sponsors a number of special events during the school year including author visits, holiday reading programs, reading weeks, poetry month, and book clubs.

Dr. Nada Collins, alongside our librarians, explored the evolving world of reading and how to inspire a love for literature in students.

They discussed important questions such as: Is it acceptable to read on devices? and until what age should parents read to their children?

They had an engaging and insightful conversation that highlights the importance of coming together as a community to nurture a passion for literature and learning—#ALLTogether!

POETRY MONTH

April is poetry month throughout Lincoln! If you visit the school at this time, you will see our Poet-Tree beginning to bloom with original works from students and teachers alike. The entire school (ES-MS-HS) participates in Poem in a Pocket Day, an opportunity to share one’s favorite poems with others.

VACATION READING CELEBRATIONS

During school breaks, both libraries invite our students to participate in vacation reading programs. Summer (January break) is traditionally Reading Bingo, a fun way to explore books wherever a student may be. Winter (July) break we have an all-school reading challenge, to see how many minutes we can read as a community. Parents are encouraged to participate! When school starts again, readers gather at the library to comment on their experiences and talk about the books they loved the most.

READING WEEK & BOOK FAIR

During Reading Week at Lincoln the libraries sponsor many activities to encourage and celebrate reading. Lincoln’s book fairs include a wide variety of titles in Spanish and English and several special activities. We host visiting authors and illustrators, who share their work and their creative processes. Having a published author visit is a unique opportunity for students to receive instruction and feedback constructing plots, designing illustrations, character building and so much more.

TINY TALES FOR TOTS

Lincoln learners include the entire family! The library hosts Tiny Tales for Tots, a storytime for babies-age 2. This is a time for parents to gather with their youngest children in the library to get to know one another, listen to stories, and check out books.

Each December/January students can take part in Reading Bingo and during July track their reading with our Minute Reading Madness!

MS BOOK CLUB

All MS students are invited to join our dynamic book club! The group meets each week during lunch to share and discuss books, help in the library and sponsor reading activities.

Club Meetings

The HS Library is one of the favorite spots for students to meet! Several HS clubs meet here weekly, including the HS Book Club, NHS, and the Peer Tutoring group.
