HIGH SCHOOL

Dear parents, we have had a busy and exciting two weeks of high school!

Our students have been active in Model United Nations, soccer, swimming, and many of you have hosted visiting athletes for our wonderfully successful SAAC Soccer tournament. My appreciation goes out to you all for your efforts to support our students in these events.

SPEAK

We host our annual SPEAK conference, during which time we invite students to lead the learning in the subject of their choice throughout the entire school day. The students have proven to be creative and brave, putting themselves on the line to organize great learning experiences for their peers. Topics and activities range from the perennial favorite, “How to Make Slime” to 1-on-1 Basketball, Origami, Harry Potter and “How to Make Cupcakes”.  This event is for the whole school from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our students lead one another in a variety of presentations, activities, discussions, and seminars. You can find a full schedule here.

Current academic progress

This week, we sent letters to the parents of students who are receiving grades of three and below in any subject.  This is an important support, and we urge you to take advantage of the information in order to have important discussions about academic progress with your students and their teachers. Please let us know if you have any questions about current academic progress, and please contact us if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s program at Lincoln.

First Semester Assessments

Coming up in the near future is our series of First Semester Assessments. Please see attached our semester assessment schedule and guidelines. We have shared all of this information with students and reviewed the schedule in Assembly this week. Teachers are preparing in their classes now. Our assessments are designed to provide a culminating demonstration of learning that is suitable for each subject. These assessments range from individual and group presentations, performances, and debates to more traditional exam-type assessments.

On December 5, we will be offering a High School Parent Coffee where we will discuss how parents can help students to succeed through the assessment period. The session will address coping with time management, exam anxiety, health and well-being, along with academic preparation and study skills. This will be hosted by our counselors. We hope to see you there!

Anime Club Magazine update!

The anime “Erased” is about Satoru Fujinuma, a 29 year old that is capable of going back in time to prevent accidents from happening. He goes back on time to save his classmates that went missing and were killed in order to find out who the real killer is. This is because a young adult that was his childhood friend was accused of those murders and he knew that he was innocent.

The anime will follow Satoru trying to find ways of saving these kids and making relationships. The anime also may make you, the audience, feel that you are wrong about who you think the murder is, but you may be
right.
