HIGH SCHOOL
Dear HS Community,
Greetings from the High school, where we have just completed the third week of classes. We have had a strong start to the school year, with students engaging in the learning process, getting to know their classmates, and making new relationships. This has also been the first week of after-school activities (ASAs), with students engaging in after-school music, drama, tennis, track, swimming, volleyball, art, and Student Council (STUCO). There is something for everyone, and we hope your teenager takes advantage of these co-curricular offerings.
As the semester picks up, students may begin to experience increased anxiety as the number of assessments increases. We do our best to help students develop self-confidence to ensure they are well-informed and prepared to succeed on assessments. Still, it is good for parents to be aware of a potential surge in activity so they can expect to see more homework, more hours of studying, and a little more stress as students move beyond their comfort zone to engage in learning over the coming weeks.
The grade-level Learning Expeditions will take place from September 16-20, 2024, with grades traveling to Miramar, La Cumbre, Iberá, and Chascomús. On Monday, August 26, all students will bring home Learning Expeditions information and permission forms. Please review the information carefully. With your agreement, students must return the signed printed forms to their advisory teacher or the main office by Friday, August 30th.
I would like to thank all of the families who were able to join us last week for Back to School Night. Over 80 families were welcomed and had the opportunity to visit their child's classes and teachers.
Next week we will host the first High School Parent Coffee, which will take place on campus in the Riverside room in the cafeteria on August 29th from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. In this first High School Coffee, we will share updates of the activities and events from the first month of school, provide updates from the Principal, IB, and counselors, and share more specific information about this year’s Learning Expeditions. Our counselors will also be hosting a Grade 12 Parent night on August 29th, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.
We hope to see you on campus for some of these upcoming events!
