September 20 @ 8:00 in the Cafeteria: (The Reading Brain and How Parents Can Support Reading At Home With Natashya Hayes, visiting literacy consultant)

September 27 @ 8:30 in the Cafeteria: Information session about the overnight excursions the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders take in March. This is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families (or any family who is curious about what the overnight trips are like in 3rd-5th grade). We will present information about the three trips, answer questions, and give some tips about how you can start getting your child ready for these important milestones.

Spring Day

Spring Day is a traditional celebration in Argentina where the teachers celebrate the arrival of spring with their students. In keeping with tradition, our Spanish teachers will use their Spanish class time on September 20 to have a small picnic with some outdoor games for the students. Students are welcome to bring something sweet or savory to share with their classmates. Parents do not need to prepare anything for this event, just make sure your child has a water bottle with them that day and if you want to, you can send in some food to share with their class.

School Photos

We scheduled school photos for September 23, 24, and 25. More information will be shared as the date approaches; we wanted to give families a few weeks notice so you can plan your haircut timing!

Child Protection Lessons

Next week, Ms. Fernanda and Ms. Cassie will start Child Protection Lessons in all classes K4-G5. These lessons are part of our Second Step Curriculum. Please check your child’s class newsletter for more information on what will be taught. If you have any questions please send an email to cassie.doyle@lincoln.edu.ar  (K4-G2) or fernanda.franco@lincoln.edu.ar  (G3-5).

Parenting Children with Diverse Needs Group - (same information as last edition)

On Wednesday, September 18th at 6:00 PM we are hosting a night for families of diverse learners here in the elementary school in Ms. Cassie’s room (ES 506). As a community, this represents a number of learners in the elementary school. Children with diverse learning needs include those with or without diagnosis for differences related to learning, attention, and behavior.  We invite all families with diverse learners to come and share stories and opportunities with other families.  Not sure this applies to you but want to know more?  Reach out to Ms. Cassie or Ms. Fernanda to learn more.

We will provide childcare for Lincoln students and have a space for parents to share snacks and drinks while we talk about our shared and unique experiences.  Please register here if you are interested in participating so we can accurately account for food, drinks, and childcare.

Recess - (same information as last edition)

We have a relatively long school day and it is important for children to have a variety of experiences throughout the day, including creative time and active time. Children need to spend time outside! Please check the weather each day and be prepared for rain by sending your child with a raincoat if it is a possibility. We will make safety the determining factor for if we go outside or have indoor recess - for  example, we go outside if it is raining, but if there is lightning we will not go outside.
