MAP Testing
Each year we participate in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessment as a means to get another data point for each student’s academic achievement levels and to get data about the academic achievement of our school in comparison with other schools around the world.
Students in 2nd-5th grade participate in Language (Reading, Language, and Spanish) and Mathematics. It is a computerized adaptive test; when taking a MAP test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. In an optimal test, a student answers approximately half the items correctly and half incorrectly. The final score is an estimate of the student’s achievement level.
We will conduct this testing September 2-5 this year. The only preparation needed from families is to continue encouraging healthy habits like:
- A consistent bedtime and bedtime routine to ensure students are getting enough sleep
- A nutrition-focused breakfast
- Being thoughtful about how, when, and why children are interacting with video screens
If you are interested and want to learn more, here is more information from the MAP website.
ES Parent Coffee
We’ll host the monthly ES Parent Coffee in the Cafeteria “fishbowl” at 8:30 on Friday, August 30th. The theme this month will be about how we, as people, adapt to changes, with a lens of new families coming to a new school or country and what an adaptation cycle can look like for families in times of transition.
ALL Together
#ALLTogether is a meaningful symbol we use in this community, it stands for the collaboration, support, and appreciation we have for each other as parents, teachers, students, and friends from K4 extending beyond grade 12.
We all remain delighted to be a part of the Lincoln Community, the partnership with families is what defines our community and we appreciate that we all embrace that together!
Parenting Children with Diverse Needs Group
Dear families of our Elementary Condors,
As parents, we play a crucial role in our children's learning journey. We have the privilege of witnessing their growth and change, and we also bear the responsibility of their development. There are times when our children require specialized support or have identified learning needs. To address these, we are continuing to build a platform where we can all learn from each other.
On Wednesday, September 18th at 6:00 PM we are hosting a night for families of diverse learners. As a community, this represents a number of learners in the elementary school. Children with diverse learning needs include those with or without diagnosis for differences related to learning, attention, and behavior. We invite all families with diverse learners to come and share stories and opportunities with other families. Not sure this applies to you but want to know more? Reach out to Ms. Cassie or Ms. Fernanda to learn more.
We will provide childcare for Lincoln students and have a space for parents to share snacks and drinks while we talk about our shared and unique experiences. Please register here if you are interested in participating so we can accurately account for food, drinks and childcare.
Back to School Night Thank You
Thank you for coming to Back to School Night! It was such a pleasure to meet so many families and see the excitement and understanding as you explored the learning spaces and met the educational team. Here is the presentation from last night: ES Leadership Back to School Night SY24-25
Recess - (same information as last edition)
We have a relatively long school day and it is important for children to have a variety of experiences throughout the day, including creative time and active time. Children need to spend time outside! Please check the weather each day and be prepared for rain by sending your child with a raincoat if it is a possibility. We will make safety the determining factor for if we go outside or have indoor recess - for example, we go outside if it is raining, but if there is lightning we will not go outside.
