National Honor Society Celebrated Lincoln Maintenance Staff with a Christmas Party
This school club prepared food, prizes, and fun games as a thank you for all the hard work of our team. Learn all about this historic organization.
The end of the year is always a time of reflection and gratitude. But for Lincoln's National Honor Society (NHS), gratefulness is also part of their tradition. Last December, before we all said goodbye to 2022, members of this club showed their appreciation for the school maintenance team by throwing a Christmas party in the cafeteria.
A Celebration that Has Been going on for Years
“This event is meant to celebrate the great work the maintenance staff puts in to keep the school in tip-top shape.” Laura Rock, our High School Learning Coach for Students, commented during an interview. She added: “Through activities, food, and prizes, we give our thanks to the wonderful maintenance team.”
And this is only one of the many events the club leads. So, the bigger question is: what is the National Honor Society?
A Club in Service of The Community
Four pillars describe Lincoln’s National Honor Society: Service, Leadership, Character, and Scholarship. All their potential members are first invited based on their scholarship and must show all the other qualities with their community before finally being accepted.
The club leads various events, such as the annual Terry Fox Run, the New Student Orientation, and some bake sales to fund activities like the Christmas Party for the maintenance team. Gratitude and service seems to sum up this club. And the roots of the NHS run deep. Rock explained:
The organisation as a whole has been functioning for over 100 years with its origins dating back to the United States where the first chapter was established. In the modern day, there are over one million high school students around the world who dedicate themselves to community service. For over 50 years, NHS has been in operation within Lincoln while upholding the standards with integrity and honour.
