Elementary School Building Project Moving Forward: Changes Coming Soon

First day in ES

The long-awaited elementary school building project is moving forward, with the permitting process now in its last phase. The construction company has already been selected, and the project team is diving into the details of the contract. As the plans move forward, some visible changes are expected to take place before the end of this semester. The playground will be moved to the new area, and ES students will enjoy recess time in the new spaces, starting on April 21, right after the Easter break.

One of the first major changes to look out for is the relocation of the playground. Over April break, the Early Childhood playground equipment, including most of the large structures and the swings, will be moved to the Middle School (MS) field. The elementary students will still have options like 4-square on the paved area and access to a bigger field.

During this transition, K3-K5 students will have recess in the upper green sector, while 1st-5th graders will use the new playground at the MS field. The first phase of the construction, known as the mobilization period, is expected to begin soon.

The new school building is designed with a focus on universal accessibility, with all types of means of access, such as elevators, ramps, and stairs. The building will feature four levels. The first three floors will house classrooms while the top level will be dedicated to the library and specialist spaces. Classroom windows will face the river, while administrative offices and prep areas will overlook the street. The new building will also include expanded and improved playground facilities as well as multipurpose and collaboration areas; something new that we do not have currently.

Weekly meetings with the project team are underway to ensure everything progresses smoothly. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project continues to take shape.
