As an international school, we aim to build a sustainable, inclusive, and uplifting place that accommodates a maximum enrollment of 735 students. We worked with Flansburgh Architects, a studio of design professionals, to have an overview of our school’s facilities and analyze the future of our campus. “The proposed plan considers the site, culture, zoning constraints, and vision of the school.” the studio explained in their report.   

The role of Flansburgh Architects 

Faculty, administrators, board members, parents, staff, and students helped during this process by attending group meetings, one-on-one interviews, informal dinners, remote and on-site design workshops, and planning sessions with the Board Committee and Flansburgh Architects.

For a more interactive process, the studio analyzed the campus with a 3D blocks model. Besides existing and new spaces, it also explored evolving ideas. All this feedback, plus the studio’s research and benchmarking of schools of similar size, led to the space program.  

The Space Program

According to Flansburgh Architects: “Lincoln has a fairly high square meter per student average compared to other international schools.” With the identified spaces around campus, the master plan suggests reusing current buildings and constructing new ones. The plan also provides design outlines for elementary and middle school and green and shared spaces. 

The space program takes into account the beautiful surroundings of La Lucila, the view of the Río de la Plata, and the core desire of the community to minimize the impact on the environment. As Flansburgh Architects explains: “At Lincoln, much of the outdoor space is hardscape or playfield, one of the goals of this master plan is to bring more natural landscape into the experience of the community.”

The Master Plan Today

“This master plan provides a road map for transforming the campus for the next 50 years, with facilities that will allow the community to flourish even further.” The focus is clear: we want to update and upgrade our historic campus to fit the needs of our ever-growing school. 

“Lincoln School is an incredibly tight-knit community with a passionate faculty who have been spending too much of their time trying to re-design their spaces to accommodate the teaching and learning that they want to do.” This compromise and collaborative effort, as Flansburgh Architects describes it, is the key to moving forward together.
