Perseverance and dedication. That is how we remember María Laura Ábalo, a passionate student, a strong athlete, and an inspiration to our community. Prepare for a trip down memory lane to 1999 to get to know more about one of our super cool agents of change!

What were your favorite classes?

I loved PE and History. I had a really great teacher called Mike Austin. His way of teaching History made the stories so intriguing and fascinating for us. I actually wanted to study History after him. I also liked English Literature with Mr. Keith Gan. He was a great teacher. I hated Chemistry and Math. I like reading. I guess I'm more on the social side of classes.

What was your favorite food in the cafeteria?

That's a tough one. There was a period when I would just eat the tuna sandwich. That was an option if you didn't like the food. I also loved the salad bar and things like that.

Are you still in touch with friends from Lincoln?

Now, in the last few years, it's been easier. With Facebook and Instagram, you're more in touch with people from high school. You can see what they're doing and what their lives are like. I keep in touch with a few.

What is the funniest event or anecdote you remember with your friends?

Everything was funny. We had some really great times in the paramillo games whenever we traveled to Chile, Uruguay, or Paraguay. We had a lot of fun. We would make up songs and dances and have fun. We would also hang out by the bench next to the high school building.
