María Carra alumni spotlight

How would we describe María Carra? Relationship Builder. Her collaborative and empathic skills show in her Lincoln journey, from her years as a Lincoln student to the hours dedicated to her Anthropology degree to her work as an educator and a Human Resources Analyst at the school. Today, María has four roles in our community. She is a former student, a social studies teacher for English Language Learners in middle school, a staff member, and a parent of one of our students.

If not a record, it is at least an impressive display of Maria's dedication and resilience to bring the school community together. We interviewed a dear graduate of the Class of 1997 to remember her years at Lincoln. Learn more about her experience as one of our learners!

Who was your favorite teacher? What would you say if they were here right now?

Mr. Austin and Mr. Fisher, my history teachers inspired me to love history and value its importance in the present. And Ray McKay, whose cultural studies class during my IB History course set me on a trajectory of love for social sciences that contributed to who I am today.

I would say thank you to Mr. Rshaid, my Chem teacher who inspired me to love science as much as anyone could at that time, and let me down very gently when he told me I was not cut out for Mars Club. To Ray I had the pleasure of telling in person, and would say again: "Gracias Jefe, por ser tan buen maestro, y enseñarme siempre." (he was also my boss for a time!)

What Were Your Favorite Classes? What was your favorite food in the cafeteria?

English and History. OF COURSE! I My favorite things in the cafeteria were the conitos con dulce de leche and I am forever CONVINCED that they were brought back recently thanks to myself and alumni on School Tours that wouldn't stop mentioning them when we walked into the cafeteria. The sprinkles they put on them now are a nice touch.

Are you still in touch with friends from Lincoln?

Well... I actually live with one. He became family and father to a current Lincoln student, our son Milo. And yes, I stay in touch with many. My class has a WA Chat where we each routinely share about our lives, and I share our sunrise river views from time to time.
