Lincoln, the American International school in Buenos Aires, received the Green Flag Award Certificate and renewed its green flag for its continued work on eco-awareness and steps taken to make the school an environmentally friendly and sustainable place.

As an Eco School since 2022, we proudly maintain our status by receiving the Green Flag Award Certificate. This recognition solidifies the school's commitment to fostering eco-awareness and implementing sustainable practices within its community. "Our eco school reaccreditation reflects the incredible work of our students and the strong support from our community. This shows we're part of something much bigger than ourselves," Camille Dolmont shared, High School Biology and TOK Teacher, and one of the voices that leads the eco-movement at Lincoln. We are part of over 80,000 schools in 87 countries that have adopted green practices recommended by UNESCO, some of which are detailed in the Green school quality standard framework.

UNESCO's vision, which prioritizes integrating environmental education into school curricula and the daily lives of students and staff, matches Lincoln’s commitment to growing as a green school, a journey that began three years ago when we became the first certified eco-school in Argentina.

One of the most recent eco-projects is the Buenos Aires Youth Climate Accords, a COP-style conference focused on climate action led by Lincoln learners. For the event, we collaborated with students from three local schools: St. Andrew's School, St. Philip the Apostle College, and St George's College. Martín Nicolás Griffin, educator and member of the MG Sustainable, came as a key speaker and invited students to take action regarding pollution, biodiversity loss, and the climate crisis. Among the resolutions were creating an inter-school environmental union to exchange ideas on climate initiatives, improving waste management by converting plastic into eco-bricks, encouraging energy conservation in schools, and raising awareness by integrating environmental education into our school curriculum.

The Lincoln community also led other initiatives, all part of Earth Week. Learners from all sections participated in a community electronic waste collection. They also put together an eco-challenge bingo to promote reusable water bottles, swapping books, collecting water cups, having a waste-free lunch, and more! They even had a community gardening event at the Puerto Libre Inclusive garden, where they did some painting, repairing, and maintenance work.

It is through student leadership and collaboration with other educational institutions that we can grow our green platform. With UNESCO’s aim to have at least 50% of all schools globally designated as green schools by 2030, Lincoln is proud to be part of this challenge for a better world.
