Growth That Impacts the Collective Learning

Our faculty and staff worked on service learning, the science of reading, and the American National Physical Education Standards & Adaptive Physical Education.

February was a month full of professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff. Different focus areas, one shared purpose. Professional learning thrives when it’s grounded in teacher agency, fueled by joy, and strengthened through meaningful relationships. There is only gratitude to our learning community, who jump in with enthusiasm, ideas, and a willingness to take a risk. Discover what our community of life-long professionals was up to.

Service Learning

We kicked off in February with a week of learning alongside Aaron Moniz from Inspire Citizens, a group that co-creates student-centered learning experiences for future-focused global citizenship. Teams across sections collaborated with Aaron to deepen and strengthen Service Learning in our curriculum while refining the systems that support it.

A highlight was our celebration and reflection session, where K4-Grade 12 teachers shared how Service Learning is already coming alive in their classrooms. We also had the opportunity to share Lincoln’s work at the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE) global conference in Toronto, showcasing how Service Learning is advancing our strategic vision.

Spanish literacy program & Science of Reading

At the end of the month, we welcomed back Maria Patricia Mesa from Erin Kent Consulting (EKC) to partner with our Spanish Elementary team. Through lab site visits, data dives, and thoughtful collaboration, we continued aligning our Spanish literacy program to the Science of Reading. After almost five years of working with Maria Patricia Mesa, it's been amazing seeing best practices translate into meaningful student growth.

SHAPE America National Physical Education

We closed the month on a high note by hosting SHAPE America with Terri Laughlin, alongside PE teachers from across the American International Schools in the Americas (AMISA) region. The weekend workshop provided an opportunity to focus on the unique challenges and opportunities in physical education. “We shared resources and experiences with teachers from other international schools, which was very enriching,” Lincoln PE teacher Gabriela Burno shared with us.

Lincoln educators and professionals from other schools, such as Colegio Maya (Guatemala), the American School Asuncion (Paraguay), and the International School Curitiba (Brazil), gathered to deepen their knowledge of the SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards and Adaptive Physical Education, which included reflecting on equipment and the distinction between differentiation, adaptation, and modification. It may have been one of the most energetic professional learning experiences we’ve ever hosted. "Taking time to pause and reflect helps us keep improving and continue promoting a fun, safe, and inclusive PE environment that encourages lifelong physical activity," Lincoln PE teacher Daiana Agradnik concluded.
